SNOMED CODER · PUBLIC INVESTMENT SUMMARY · OCTOBER 2026
Clinical evidence.
Human-led coding decisions.
Working MVP for UK primary care. Raising £250k pre-seed to support independent validation, practice pilots and the path to paid adoption.
The problem and product
GP coding teams translate correspondence into the clinical record. SNOMED Coder brings the source, terminology suggestions, context controls and review alerts into one workspace. Clinicians accept, edit or reject suggestions before preparing reviewed outputs.
Founder
Dr Shamim Safkat Khan, MBBS, MSc Psychology of Mental Health. Lead Clinical Coder across seven GP sites; around three years in coding and seven years in software development. Trained or supported 15+ staff and built the product’s workflow and architecture.
Early evidence
Synthetic development set: 106/107 expected concepts correct across 23 letters; 153/153 expected facts found and 130/132 assertions correct. Cases reused in tuning; expected uncoded handling 31/46.
Initial real-letter check: 141/147 marked suggestions judged right, from 13 letters and 150 items. Marked by the founder, not independently; missed facts were not measured.
First market and commercial plan
UK GP practices and their coding teams. Proposed pricing: 6.5p per registered patient/month, or 15.99p per letter software only. A 10,000-patient practice would represent £650 monthly at the proposed subscription price.
Founder-led pilot conversations, a scoped 12-week evaluation, then a paid-practice decision. Targets: 3–5 pilots and subsequently 10–25 paying practices. These are future goals, not current traction.
Funding and milestones
£50k strategic first close proposed, followed by £200k. Priorities: independent clinical marking, clinical safety input, engineering, practice pilots, assurance and a route to integration.
The deck estimates approximately 17 months of lean runway, or 13 months with a pilot lead, at average planned burn. Lean first-year spend: approximately £177.1k, including founder/developer employer costs, safety, security, assumed integration fees and contingency.
What remains to establish
Independent validation, measured time savings and cost to serve, live EMIS filing, an approved integration route, clinical safety and wider deployment assurance. Broader automation modules remain future plans.
